The Samaritan Movement

Caribbean Mental Health First Aid and Suicide First Aid

ADULT VERSION YOUTH VERSION

A first-of-its-kind programme in the Caribbean, grounded in our culture, our communities and our lived experiences.

Our training brings together local professional insight, personal stories and practical learning to help people recognise distress, respond with compassion and connect others with appropriate support.

Available in distinct Adult and Youth versions, the programme builds confidence to offer initial support within families, schools, parishes and communities across Trinidad and Tobago.

Adult version · Community care

Equipping adults to respond with care.

The Adult programme strengthens the first-response skills of clergy, pastoral workers and other adults. Across two days, participants explore mental health, suicide awareness, compassionate communication and pathways to further support.

Practical activities and guided discussion make space for lived experience, personal boundaries and self-care, helping participants bring thoughtful, culturally relevant support into everyday community life.

Rooted in Caribbean life, the training encourages compassionate conversations, awareness of distress and connection to appropriate help, strengthening the support available to young people in their communities.
